OUR ROOTS

In 1946, after a long and successful career as President of the Richmond Engineering Corporation, Thomas Jefferson Starke founded Steel Services, Inc. Steel Services’ roots actually date back beyond Richmond Engineering to the Starke Dixie Plow Works, founded in the 1850’s by Patrick Henry Starke in Richmond, VA. As the name suggests, the company was about Steel and Service. Guided by Thomas and his son, Thomas J. Starke III, the first Service Center opened in Richmond, Virginia, next door to Richmond Engineering.
